Samurai

Japanese Restaurant

About us

Samurai Japanese Restaurant first opened its doors in December 1979. We were located on Highway 101 in Solana Beach, and back then, we were a small, humble restaurant. At the time, it was the first Japanese restaurant in North County San Diego. Back then, the Japanese community was very small and sushi chefs were nonexistent. So David Song, father of the present owner Charlie Song, took the initiative ā€“ he traveled to Japan to recruit sushi chefs!

When it first opened, Samurai served only sushi. But it became so popular that it had to expand. To accommodate the increase in customers, Samurai added Teppan Yaki, a larger sushi bar, a cocktail lounge, and a shiatsu center. Soon it became the biggest sushi bar restaurant in San Diego. Unfortunately, tragedy fell ā€“ it burnt down and Samurai moved to the present place at Lomas Santa Fe Plaza in October 1986.

Today, we commonly meet with three generations of customers who have become like family. Come by and experience our premier Japanese cuisine and excellent service
